Seventh Week

This week we have been talking about What is Project-based-learning (PBL). PBL may be defined as using authentic, real world projects, based on a highly motivation and engaging question, task, or problem to teach students academic content in the context of working cooperatively to solve the problem. We have talked about the PBL cycle:

Lidia showed us an example of a PBL that she made with her students. This one was about Halloween. I really liked some of her ideas for the Halloween party:

  • Halloween counter.
  • Big autumn tree at the entrance of the English room.
  • Hop Scotch: pumpkin, spider, ghost, cat, owl...turn Maria turn, turn...owl, cat, ghost, spider, pumpkin out Maria out.
  • Halloween invitation.

In my opinion, working in projects in ELT seems easier than it really is because it presents a lot of challenges that schools from nowadays are not prepared to deal with. For example, teachers should have more free time in their timetable to dedicate it to prepare this kind of activities. So, I think it is possible to work through PBL, but we must adapt to reality.

Moreover, I have been looking for some PBLs at home. I attached them in my symbaloo.
