Sixth Week

We dedicated this week to create our reading corners in pairs. Julia and I decided to work as a pair. Before starting working in our project, we have defined what a Reading Corner is.

In my opinion, it is a tool that we can use to make our future ELT lessons more dynamic and fun for the kids. This activity also promotes autonomous learning so the teacher's role changes and you become a helper and a guide for the kids.

  • We started to create the Reading Corner choosing one of the sample matrials that were in Sample Materials_Primary Education.pdf. We chose the one named: Where does our rubbish go? We chose that one because we thought it was an interesting topic to work with kids. We also thought it was too easy for kids in primary school so it was difficult to get the most from it.
  • Then we started to think about the activities involved in our Reading Corner. Firstly, we were not very inspired so it was difficult to start creating everything from zero. We proposed some ideas and we chose the ones that we liked the most.
  • When we had three activities in our minds we presented them to Lidia and she told us we had to do some changes. We were strongly agree with her opinion and we changed them.
  • When we had the final ideas we started to create the document with all of the activities and the materials needed.

I really enjoyed preparing this activity. It was nice to share ideas with my classmate Julia and to improve them to reach the objectives that we wanted. It was hard in the beginning but then we did our best. I think I could use this Reading Corner when I become an ELT teacher.
